GABEHART, FAIR JR. RULE TOLEDO TWIN 100s

Toledo, OH (5/27)  Chris Gabehart and Harold Fair Jr. powered their way to wins in their respective classes at the Marco's Pizza/Atomic Powersports Twin 100's Sunday evening at Toledo Speedway.  A fair crowd turned out after a dismal day finally ended in brilliant sunshine as the green flag dropped on the 1st event of the night.  Both events ran without major incidents and some great racing as each 100 lap contest was completed in just 50 minutes each.

The visiting CRA Super Series Late Models made their annual trek to Toledo and were up 1st on the race card.  John VanDoorn led the 24 car field to the green flag and held the point for 6 laps until JR Roahrig slipped under VanDoorn to take charge.  Gabehart, the fast qualifier at 15:605, worked his way to the front at lap 20 and kept up a sizable margin for most of the event, which was slowed by just 5 yellows for minor incidents.  On each restart, Chris drove away from the pack.  The race-long battle was for 3rd between the trio of VanDoorn, Scott Hantz and Brian Campbell.  The group battled for 60 laps for the 3rd spot as leader Gabehart and Roahrig got away from the field.  On lap 91, Hantz powered by VanDoorn coming out of turn 2 and grabbed 3rd spot as the lead duo took the checkered flag.  A lap 93 yellow bunched the field, but Gabehart pulled away for the win, with Roahrig 2nd, Hantz 3rd, Campbell 4th and VanDoorn 5th.

Toledo's ARCA Royal Truck and Trailer/Allegiant Air Gold Cup Late Model Series kicked off their 4-race run at the 1/2 mile paved oval Sunday, and an unreal qualifying session saw blistering speeds with a perfect heat and humidity combination pushing Johnny Belott and the field to some great laps.  Belott's fast time for the 27 car field was 15:120.  With an inversion of 7 at the start, outside polesitter Lee Anderson took command at the green flag.  On lap 4, Harold Fair Jr. moved from his 4th starting spot and took over the lead on his way to a very impressive display of speed.  Fair Jr. sailed around the track, lapping car after car and putting distance on 2nd place man Brent Jack.  On lap 18, Anderson's car quit in turn 4, ending his day.  Again, as Gabehart was able to do in the CRA contest, Fair Jr. pulled away on each restart.  With about 20 laps to go, however, Jack was able to narrow the gap on a re-start and started to reel in the leader.  Fair Jr. was able to get a good jump on the final re-start with 15 laps to go and claimed the win over Jack, who dropped back a bit when his engine started to run hot.  Belott came home third, Dave Kuhlman closed quickly in the waning laps to grab 4th and Freddie Campbell was 5th, followed by Mike Luberda Jr., Dennis Strickland, Jack Smith, Kevin Stahl and Mike Demars.  The top 7 all completed the 100 laps.  The Gold Cup Series returns for the 2nd 100 lap contest Friday night, June 22.

Friday evening, June 1 Toledo Speedway will feature an $8 admission night on Erie Tree Service Night.  The ARCA Sportsman, Figure 8's, Factory Stocks and 4 Cylinders will all be in action.  The Plywood race and wheelbarrow races are also on the slate!  It's a night of affordable Family Fun at Toledo Speedway.  The gates open at 5 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
